We all have emotions. We feel them just about all the time. We may be happy, sad, angry, excited, and confused on the same day. They are a part of who we are. Our emotions also have a substantial impact on our health. The way in which we respond to a harmful situation enables us to avoid danger. Emotions impact the relationships we have with our family, friends and peers. For instance, insight allows even student leaders to make rational decisions by understanding other students so they will follow them. We communicate sensitivity in our facial expressions, the rhythm of our voices, and body gestures, making our response more effective than the words we utilize.

We choose to let our emotions guide us. The choice is in our hands whether to focus on negative or positive feelings. There is power in positive emotions that can significantly improve our health and way of thinking. For example, we all have a desire to survive. Through our awareness, we have survival instincts. Our emotions are the driving force in these tendencies.
